Fall

Channel Islands Sunset

Greetings from Mammoth Mountain California!

Hope this finds you all well. We have had just a dusting of snow here in Mammoth. Even though it has been a very pleasant fall, Mammoth Mountain is scheduled to open a week before Thanksgiving. With their snow making capabilities all we need is cold temperatures at night and they can do wonders on the slopes.

Gina and I spent 2 wonderful weeks in Switzerland in September and about 10 days in Zion Nat'l park in October. I ran my 19th St. George marathon on Oct 6th in a time of 4 hours 25 min. I was trying to break the 4 hour barrier..for an old guy that's pretty good..next year I will do it!

On Nov 3rd Ryan Hall from Mammoth Lakes (and Big Bear Lake Ca.) won the U.S. Olympic trials marathon in a time of 2 hours 9 min - a new trails record. He ran a perfect race and dusted the competition. A sad note that day, Ryan Shay, a member of team USA died in the race. A 28 year old in perfect condition. The exact cause of death has not yet been released. Ryan trained here in Mammoth with the team and was a champion marathon runner. He will be missed dearly and our thoughts and prayers go out to his wife and family.

We have a new grand-daughter due in Dec! We are excited for our son David and his wife Amy. They have a son Luke, now 2yrs. 3mo. old and he will have fun with a new baby sister, I'm sure! We will spend Thanksgiving up in Reno with their family and hopefully Matt and family as well as Dave and family will be coming to Mammoth sometime around Christmas to celebrate the holidays as one big happy family.

Sending you Thanksgiving greetings as well as a wonderful Christmas and a very happy and prosperous 2008.

We want to thank you for your continued friendship and confidence through the years and know there will be many more. Hope to see you soon. Tom Schemenauer :)

Every Day Thanksgiving

Even though I clutch my blanket and growl when the alarm rings each morning, thank you Lord, that I can hear. There are many who are deaf.

Even though I keep my eyes tightly closed against the morning light as long as possible, thank you Lord, that I can see. There are many who are blind.

Even though I huddle in my bed and putt off the effort of rising, thank you Lord, that I have the strength to rise. There are many who are bedridden.

Even though the first hour of my day is hectic, when socks are lost, toast is burned and tempers are short, thank you Lord, for my family. There are many who are lonely.

Even though our breakfast table never looks like the pictures in magazines and the menu is at times unbalanced, thank you Lord, for the food we have. There are many who are hungry.

Even though the routine of my job is often monotonous, thank you Lord, for the opportunity to work. There are many who have no job.

Even though I grumble and bemoan my fate from day to day and wish my circumstances were not so modest, thank you Lord, for the gift of life.
